Our Library contains over 85,000 obituaries and death notices from local Butte County newspapers. The collection includes the years 1855 to current. This is not a full collection, but we are working on updating our records as we acquire new sources. Note: some of the records are from the adjacent counties of Colusa, Glenn, Plumas, Sutter, Tehama and Yuba.

Society volunteers are indexing our card files covering the years 1855-2008. The letters A through L have been indexed and can be searched online. See indexes below.

The newer obituaries for 2009 and 2010 are indexed separately. The year 2009 is a complete index (A -Z). See index below.

We will do free look-ups for all letters (A-Z). Copies of records are $5.00 donation each.

Important: If you do not find what you are looking for in the 1855-2008 index below, ask for a free look-up. We will check for any new sources which have not yet been added online.
